Babachir Lawal Dumps APC, Says New Political Move Coming Soon

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Babachir Lawal, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending his long-standing association with the ruling party.

Lawal, who also once served as the APC’s National Vice Chairman (Northeast), was a close ally of President Bola Tinubu but fell out with him in recent years. Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Lawal openly criticized the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket of Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, and went on to declare support for Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

In a resignation letter dated June 29 and addressed to the APC chairman in Bangshika Ward, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Lawal wrote:

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the All Progressive Congress.

In due course, I will make public my current political affiliations where I plan to join other compatriots to work towards making Nigeria a better living place for all its citizens. This resignation takes immediate effect.

Please, remain blessed and extend my warm regards to other members of your party.”

Lawal did not disclose which party he plans to join but hinted that an announcement will be made soon.
