ASUU ATBU Members Resume Academic Activities Amid Partial Strike Nationwide

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, have resumed normal academic duties, despite the union’s warning of a possible nationwide strike.
The clarification came from the ATBU ASUU Branch Chairperson, Dr. Haruna Angulu, who told reporters that their chapter has not joined the reported strike action.
“We have not declared a full-blown strike as claimed by some media outlets,” Angulu said. “Academic activities have resumed at ATBU, and our members have received their June 2025 salaries.”
He assured that the branch would continue normal operations unless a new directive is issued.
This development comes after the ASUU national body hinted at a potential nationwide industrial action over unpaid June salaries. ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, warned on Tuesday that members in branches yet to receive their salaries are observing a “no pay, no work” policy.
“This is not an indefinite strike,” Piwuna explained. “We’ve asked members to apply the no pay, no work rule. If by the end of July the situation doesn’t change, we will stop work again.”
Piwuna also noted that the policy only affects branches with unresolved salary issues. Universities like the University of Abuja and University of Jos, where salaries have been paid, have already resumed full academic operations.
