AstraZeneca is inviting passionate young advocates to apply for the 2025 Young Health Programme (YHP) Impact Fellowship. This initiative is designed to support emerging leaders in driving meaningful change in health equity through financial assistance, learning and development programs, and participation in the One Young World Summit.

What the Fellowship Offers:
Selected candidates will receive a fully-funded One Young World Scholarship to attend the 2025 Summit in Munich, Germany. Additionally, each Fellow will be awarded a US $10,000 grant—or up to US $50,000 if chosen as a Lead2030 Challenge winner—to implement a project through their non-profit organization. Beyond funding, Fellows will gain access to exclusive leadership development opportunities to support their personal and professional growth.


Who Should Apply?

AstraZeneca seeks young leaders worldwide who are actively championing health equity in at least one of the following focus areas:

1. Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

Advocating for policies that enable healthier lifestyles among young people, with an emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility. Key focus areas include:

  • Nutrition
  • Tobacco and alcohol control
  • Physical activity promotion
  • Air quality improvement

2. Rare Disease Advocacy

Driving equitable access to care and supporting policy changes for individuals living with rare diseases.


What Fellows Will Gain

1. Global Networks

  • Full participation in the 2025 One Young World Summit
  • Access to the One Young World Ambassador Network
  • Membership in the Young Health Programme (YHP) Alumni Group, a network of young health advocates
  • A seat on AstraZeneca’s YHP Advisory Board, where Fellows will collaborate on global policy solutions

2. Professional Development

  • structured learning and development program
  • Self-paced and live training sessions
  • Access to the One Young World Academy, including an MBA-Essentials program and specialized professional training

3. Financial Support

  • grant of US $10,000 or US $50,000 (if selected as the Lead2030 winner) to execute a health-related project
  • Automatic consideration for the Lead2030 Challenge for SDG3

About AstraZeneca’s Young Health Programme (YHP)

AstraZeneca emphasizes the importance of prevention in healthcare to ensure equitable health outcomes. The YHP aims to shift healthcare systems from treating diseases to preventing them by increasing health literacy and access to education.

Currently active in over 40 countries, the YHP combines:

  • Community engagement programs
  • Research initiatives
  • Policy advocacy
  • Leadership development for young changemakers

Since 2016, AstraZeneca has partnered with One Young World to empower young leaders focused on youth health. The programme aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goal Target 3.4, which aims to reduce premature deaths from NCDs by one-third by 2030.


Eligibility Criteria

Basic Requirements:

  • Aged 18–30 (exceptions may be considered for outstanding candidates over 30)
  • Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing)
  • Open to applicants from all countries
  • Ability to attend the One Young World Summit in Munich, Germany (November 2–7, 2025)
  • Willingness to actively engage in the Fellowship, contribute insights, and advocate for health equity
  • Access to the internet and a device (computer or phone) for online Fellowship sessions

Organizational Requirements:

Applicants must be founders or leaders of registered non-profit organizations that meet the following criteria:

  • Operational for at least three years
  • For a US $10,000 grant:
    • Total income in the last financial year between US $10,000 and US $1,000,000
  • For a US $50,000 grant:
    • Total income in the last financial year between US $100,000 and US $2,000,000
  • Must be able to provide necessary governance and financial documentation in English (verification process takes 3–6 months)
  • Must operate within underserved communities

Project Requirements:

Applicants must propose a 6–12 month project that:

  • Focuses on NCD prevention among youth through policy advocacy
  • Targets at least one of the major NCD risk factors (tobacco use, physical inactivity, harmful alcohol consumption, unhealthy diets, air pollution)
  • Advocates for policy improvements benefiting youth with rare diseases
  • Is led by and designed for young people
  • Is inclusive and non-discriminatory, particularly supporting marginalized youth
  • Demonstrates clear impact with measurable outcomes
  • Starts after October 2025 and ends by December 2026

Ineligible Projects:

Funding will not be provided for projects that:

  • Promote political or religious agendas
  • Distribute grants or donations to individuals or other organizations
  • Fund medical courses, scholarships, or tuition fees
  • Cover medical treatment or pharmaceutical costs
  • Extend beyond 12 months
  • Have already started or will begin before November 2025
  • Are funded over 50% by other sources (excluding the AstraZeneca grant)

Scholarship Benefits

  • Catering:
    • Dinner on November 2
    • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (November 3–6)
    • Breakfast on November 7
  • Travel expense reimbursement (up to £250)
  • Visa application reimbursement (approximately £75)
  • Return transfer from Munich International Airport to hotel via public transport
  • Year-long access to AstraZeneca’s YHP Impact Fellowship
