Aisha Was With Buhari Weeks Before His Death – Femi Adesina Debunks Divorce Rumors

Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has revealed that the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, was with her husband as recently as March 2025—contrary to widespread speculation that the couple had separated.

Adesina, who served in Buhari’s administration from 2015 to 2023, made the disclosure while paying tribute to the late president. He stated that Aisha was present at Buhari’s Kaduna residence during his final visit there before he travelled to London for medical treatment.

His remarks counter claims by U.S.-based academic Professor Farooq Kperogi, who alleged that Aisha had divorced Buhari, dropped his surname, and reverted to her maiden name, Halilu.

“Buhari was also alone when he later relocated to Kaduna. In fact, when he fell ill and it was suggested that Aisha travel to London to care for him, she reportedly hesitated because she was no longer his wife,” Kperogi claimed in a recent publication.

But Adesina offered a different account, writing: “It was Ramadan, and I joined him for dinner. The former First Lady, Aisha, was around and offered me some roasted meat (suya).”

“Less than two weeks later, he travelled to London for what was said to be a routine medical trip. It lasted almost four months and he never returned, at least not alive.”
