Aisha Buhari Was Divorced From Late President Buhari Before His Death – Farooq Kperogi Alleges

Public affairs analyst and journalism professor at Kennesaw State University, Farooq Kperogi, has claimed that Aisha Buhari was no longer married to the late President Muhammadu Buhari at the time of his death.

Kperogi made the allegation in a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday, stating that Aisha had reverted to her maiden name, Aisha Halilu, long before the former president passed away.

He noted that Aisha did not join Buhari when he retired to Daura after leaving office, nor did she accompany him when he later relocated to Kaduna. According to him, these were early signs that their marriage had ended.

“When he fell ill and it was suggested that Aisha travel to London to care for him, she initially hesitated because she was no longer his wife,” Kperogi wrote. “She eventually went in the last few days before he died, but only after intense persuasion.”

Kperogi also questioned the authenticity of a widely circulated statement allegedly made by Aisha, in which she claimed Buhari asked her to seek forgiveness from Nigerians on his behalf. He expressed doubt over when and where such a conversation might have taken place.

“I can’t confirm the authenticity of that claim,” he said. “But I’m genuinely curious to know when and where Buhari told her to beg Nigerians for forgiveness. Where did she even say this?”

Kperogi concluded that Aisha appeared conflicted during the mourning period, which, in his view, further reflected the complexities of her relationship with the late president before his passing.
