Abia Police Rescue 12 Children from Alleged Illegal Orphanage Operated by Couple

The Abia State Police Command has successfully rescued twelve children from an alleged illegal orphanage operated by a couple, Sunday Emebo and Blessing Emebo, in Aba.
This development was confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who revealed that the rescue operation took place on May 19, 2025. The children were discovered in an unregistered facility disguised as a motherless babies home, located within the couple’s residence on Ikot Ekpene Road.
According to DSP Chinaka, the breakthrough was made possible through credible intelligence provided to the Command. The rescued children, whose ages range between six and fourteen months, were promptly removed from the premises for their safety.
She further stated that the couple is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where they are undergoing interrogation. They will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The rescued children have since been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care and rehabilitation.
Reiterating the Command’s commitment to combating crime in the state, DSP Chinaka urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid entrusting children to unfamiliar individuals.
