Tinubu’s Wife Welcomes First Baby of 2025
On Wednesday, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu welcomed the first baby of the year 2025 (First Baby of 2025) in Abuja at the Asokoro District Hospital.
The newborn, Favour Stephen Odion, a baby girl, was delivered to the family of Mr. Odion Oyinbo and Mrs. Chioma Odion at 12:27 am on January 1, 2025, weighing 3.6 kg.
Mrs. Tinubu also celebrated other newborns at the hospital, including the first baby boy of the year, Zimchikachim Ejiofor. He was born at 7:14 am to the family of Mr. Ejiofor Nworie and Mrs. Delight Nworie, weighing 3 kg.
The First Lady welcomed Favour and the other New Year’s Day babies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with gifts, including post-natal care items, nutritional supplies, and cash tokens.
In a statement issued by Kwapchi Bata, Special Assistant to the President on Media & ICT, it was noted that Mrs. Tinubu was represented at the hospital by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima.
Praying for the children, Mrs. Shettima said, “I am here to represent the mother of the nation to welcome the first baby of the year and other children. So, I’m presenting this token and a beautiful package to our dear daughter. I want to wish her well—long life, prosperity, good health. Insha Allah, they (the first baby and other babies) are the next generation to take over from us. I wish you all the best. Please take good care of her.”
The First Lady also congratulated and advised the mothers on proper child care, emphasizing exclusive breastfeeding, immunization, and timely postnatal care. She said, “Good enough, this (Asokoro General Hospital) is closer to my house; I’m sure for the postnatal, they’re going to take good care of you.”
As part of the celebration, Mrs. Tinubu presented birth certificates to the first baby of the year and the first baby boy. She also visited the maternity ward to congratulate other mothers and their newborns.
Earlier, the acting Chief Medical Director of Asokoro District Hospital, Dr. Rosemary Nwokorie, welcomed the First Lady and commended the Tinubu administration for its dedication to transforming the nation’s health sector to enhance healthcare services for all Nigerians.
Dr. Nwokorie also praised the First Lady and the wife of the Vice President for their intervention programs, particularly the Renewed Hope Initiative, which provides support to vulnerable women and children across the country.
